FAQ
We offer a unique group opportunity for teens between the ages of 15 and 18. This group is an opportunity for teens to have fun, develop enhanced leadership and communication skills, learn strategies to cope with stress, support one another and talk about topics that are important to them such as sex, dating, relationships, technology, stress, family life, etc. All of this will be done in a safe and confidential space.

The teens that come out of this group often find that they are...
  • More confident
  • More open with their thoughts, feelings and needs
  • Having better relationships with their parents
  • Better leaders
  • More prepared to be successful adults in the "real world"
  • Less stressed
  • More motivated to do well in all areas of their life
  • More comfortable having real and meaningful relationships with others

While many teens tend to be reluctant and nervous at the beginning of a group like this, by the end, they frequently make meaningful new friendships and connections and are glad they did it. Many of them even want to do it again!

WHY: Most teenagers are becoming more and more dependent on their cell phones and technology to connect with others, however I find that they also still long to have real and meaningful interactions with others. They want to talk about real things with real people in a real way. In many cases, they aren't sure how or are lacking the opportunities to do this. This often doesn't happen at school and most teens need an outlet other than you, their parent, for this. This group can be a great adjunct for those already in counseling.

WHO: Do to space there are only 8 spots available. This is for teens between the ages of 15 and 18 who want to participate in something new and fun or are at least willing to give it a try. This group is not for teens with significant behavioral issues.

WHEN: To be determined.

WHERE: At our office. 1318 NW 20th Suite A5

HOW MUCH: $350 for 10 90 minute group sessions. Sliding scale is available.

Since I have a limited number of slots, openings will be on a first come first serve basis. If I haven't met you or your child before, it will be important for me to do so. In this case we'll schedule a 30 minute free consultation. This meeting is also a good way for your teen and I to get to know each other a bit to help them feel more comfortable and make an informed decision about joining the group.

Call (503)289-1584  or email: yshai@portlandfamilycounseling.com if you think this may be a good fit for your teen or if you have any questions.
